Life After Babies

Our bodies adapt over the course of 9 months to accommodate another being. To think that you can “bounce back” or be back to “normal” after 6 weeks or even a few months is simply wishful thinking.

Of course, you should love your body the way it is, give reverence to scars that are left from bringing life into the world, honor the changes that needed to occur to make room for your blessed little baby. But this doesn’t mean we have to settle and carry on in an uncomfortable body that doesn’t work the way we want it to.

As mothers, we endure many discomforts in our bodies. We experience achy neck, shoulders, back; SI joint and low back pain; tight and sore hips. Others may have diastasis recti, prolapse, or leaking. While this is all very common, we don’t have to just get used to it. Our bodies are capable of great things, and healing is one of them.

The Postpartum Period

When I talk to people who have given birth, most of the ones with children that are 2 years or older think that they have finally gotten past the dreaded "postpartum period" in their lives. They are glad it's over. They are glad that their hormones have stabilized, their hair has grown back, their bodies feel "normal", though they are achy and feeling older for sure.

The truth is, once you have given birth, you will spend the rest of your life as "postpartum." Those aches are common, but not normal. Incontinence is common, but not normal.

Your body has been forever changed by carrying a fetus in your womb, by giving birth - however that looked for you. But just because your body went thru the biggest physical change anyone will ever experience doesn't mean that you have to live with it just the way it is.

What if I told you that you don't have to live the rest of your life with incontinence, diastisis, prolapse, aches and pains? What if you could get back into running, climbing, skiing, bicycling without worrying? Without feeling like you have to take it easy?

Or if you never did these things pre-baby but you long to, why hold yourself back? What if I told you that it's possible to be stronger than ever after baby?

It IS possible!

You don't have to live your life with aches and pains. You don't have to stay close to bathrooms, or avoid certain activities for fear of embarrassment.
